I have managed to watch a ridiculously silly film today. The Fifth Element. Quite a number of people suggested it to me, including my grandfather, who has watched an innumerable amount of films, and whose opinion I trust and respect in a lot of areas, especially when it comes to watching films. The Fifth Element, however, is an exception. Very primitive. Cheesy, stupid. Poorly rendered animation, even for ‘97. Goofy and childish, nonetheless surprisingly interesting and intriguing. I especially liked one moment from the film, when the ‘Evil’ phoned Gary Oldman, the indisputable Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg. So ridiculous. And the funny thing is, it wasn’t played for laughs. I’m not sure if I liked the film or not, but I will certainly remember it as a very silly and whimsical sci-fi action movie for kids that is not meant to be taken seriously.
